Abstract

The aim of the work described in this paper is to model an ultrasonic data communications link between a base station and a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) within a water filled pipe. Due to the complex interaction between the ROV, named Pipe Rover, and the environmental components, emphasis is on the simulation of the acoustic channel, and the authors present results derived from mathematical modeling of the pipe system and its inter-relationship with the sensor beam patterns.
