Abstract

Nanowires from silicon (SiNW) were synthesized with negligible contamination of nanoparticles using laser ablation of silicon monoxide powders. High-yield and high purity production of SiNW were used in measurements of physical and electronic properties. Results showed direct support for the oxide-assisted vapor-liquid-solid (VLS) growth model of Si nanowires. Presence of few nanoparticles in silicon nanowires was confirmed by transmission electron micrographs.
