Abstract
In this paper, a shaped-beam pattern is synthesized for a base station antenna in a mobile communication system by controlling only the excitation phases of the array elements. We first employ the weighting function to construct an objective function in a minimum mean-square-error sense, which will then be minimized by the quasi-Newton method. Two synthesis examples are presented to demonstrate the efficiency and capability of this proposed method.
