Abstract
Self-control usually manifests itself as a gap between intention and action, and people act on their own choices based on rational thinking. On the social media platform, self-control has different expressions, mainly reflected in the expression of negative emotions. As an open cyberspace, the social media platform provides conditions for the spread of cyber violence. This study selected two mainstream social media platforms in mainland China as the research environment, namely Weibo and Zhihu. According to the findings of this study, it has become a common phenomenon to witness and experience cyber violence on social media. The research model was constructed by questionnaires to obtain the user's social media usage, the extent of witnessing or experiencing cyber violence, and the possibility of self-control. This study confirms that there are varying degrees of cyber violence on different social media platforms due to different social media environments. It is indicated that witnessing cyber violence hurts people's self-control ability, and when people lose their ability to control themselves, they are more vulnerable to cyber violence.
