Abstract

The fabrication of selectively buried ion-exchanged waveguides in glass was described. The waveguides were formed using Ag/Na ion-exchange in Schott IOG-10 glass in multi-step process. It was demonstrated that surface sections of the waveguides interact strongly with an electro-optic polymer substrate. A schematic diagram of the basic waveguide structure, which consists of surface and buried waveguide sections, was also shown.
