N2 - "Ruminations" is part of the group show "The Sun Teaches Us that History is Not Everything" 太陽教會我們歷史並非一切(群展)with 25 other artists from Latin America, SE Asia, Macau and Hong Kong, curated by Raphael Fonseca for the Osage Art Foundation, Hong Kong (2018.03.25-05.06).
RUMINATIONS, with 4 components installed on a 4mx6m floor space with a back wall, is an experiment with the principle of “montage” in the form of a series of four historical miniatures on Hong Kong’s coloniality as I have experienced it. “Montage” highlights the role of “graphicness” and perceptibility in producing knowledge of the past, through the assemblage of “large-scale constructions out of the smallest and most precisely cut components.” (Walter Benjamin, The Arcade Project, N2,6) Montage is affinitive to “miniatures,” which make vivid and palpable the density of life situations, allowing “multiple-layered structure of historical process” to appear in complex tonalities. (Alf Luedtke, The History of Everyday Life, 1995: 21) (from the researcher-artist's work archive)
