Robust OPF considering load and renewable power uncertainties in multi-terminal HVDC grids

Abstract

With the development of large-scale offshore wind farms and floating photovoltaics farms, multi-terminal HVDC systems have drawn significant attention in interconnecting the renewable energy to the main HVAC grid. It becomes increasingly important to consider the injection of the offshore renewable generation into the main HVAC power system in the economic operation. At the mean time requirements such as making the control strategies robust to the uncertainties that caused by the intermittency of renewables, have been considered to be of great significance to the electricity network reliability. This paper presents a robust OPF solution for meshed AC and multi-terminal HVDC grids, with large-scale offshore renewable generations connection via voltage source converters (VSC). The obtained solution is robust against uncertain load and wind generation, and able to guarantee full usage of electricity generated by RES. Moreover, multi-terminal HVDC system via VSC presents distinctive ability and flexibility in accommodating intermittent RES. © 2016 IEEE.
