Robert Lettner: Das Spiel vom Kommen und Gehen

This is the first fundamental publication on the multi-layered work of the artist Robert Lettner, who lives in Vienna and the Lower Austrian Waldviertel. Born in 1943 in Elne (F) and raised in the refugee camp Camp de Gurs, he came to Vienna via Salzburg in 1953 after the end of the war. After his training as a lithographer he studied painting at the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts (1964-1969). He had his first successes in the galleries Im Griechenbeisl and Nächst St. Stephan. Since 1970 he has been a member of the Vienna Secession and was head of the Central Workshop for Graphic and Reproduction Technology at the University of Applied Arts (1985-2008). Robert Lettner died in 2012 in Vienna.
The publication designed by Philipp Stadler, the contents of which were planned by Robert Lettner with Harald Kraemer during his lifetime, makes his work visible for the first time. 300 panels and introductions to the four central themes of resistance, utopia, landscape and ornament are followed on more than 130 pages by a chronological documentation section with extensive information. In the sense of a "contribution to the ongoing art discussion" (R. L.), the material necessary for researching the work is thus made available. The publication will be published in 2018, the year in which Robert Lettner would have turned 75.
