Abstract
Purpose – This study aims to examine the impact of risk perception on muzakkis’ and eligible donors’ intention (INT) to pay zakat and make other donations using a financial technology (fintech) platform. Other relevant components of the technology acceptance model and theory of planned behaviour were also regarded in this work.
Design/methodology/approach – Empirical data from 242 structured questionnaires were purposively gathered from Generation Z respondents and analysed using partial least square-structural equation modelling.
Findings – Perceived risks of privacy, psychology, security and time were not regarded as determinants of the attitude (ATT) and INT to pay zakat via fintech by muzakkis. In other words, eligible muzakkis prioritise other factors involving perceived behavioural control, perceived usefulness and subjective norms to determine the ATT and INT to meeting zakat obligation and donations with fintech.
Originality/value – This research expands the current body of literature on technological acceptance for fulfilling zakat obligations via fintech using perceived risk, particularly psychological and time risks. Furthermore, muzakkis do not focus on perceived risk elements.
