N2 - This chapter explores the multifaceted realm of macro social work, with a focus on its relevance in addressing poverty and inequality. By examining radical, structural, antioppressive, developmental, and critical social work approaches, it aims to shed light on their distinct characteristics and theoretical underpinnings, as well as their merits, limitations, and challenges, in tackling issues of poverty and inequality. The chapter delves into the historical context that surrounds these various perspectives, underscoring the significance of comprehending their global origins. It highlights how macro social work has evolved and diversified to address the needs of underprivileged and marginalized populations, particularly those affected by poverty and inequality. Recognizing poverty and inequality as societal challenges that impede the realization of a fair and impartial society, macro social work operates with a steadfast commitment to promoting social justice and equality. Diverse approaches within social work offer different perspectives and strategies to address poverty and inequality, advocating for social justice, empowerment, and transformative change in individuals, communities, and societies. In this context, the collaborative efforts of social workers become indispensable. The collaborative approach necessitates partnerships with diverse stakeholders, including community organizations, policy makers, and individuals with lived experiences of poverty and inequality. Social workers must remain committed to the principles of macro social work, recognizing poverty and inequality as urgent concerns that demand a collective attention. By amplifying the voices of the marginalized, advocating for policy reforms, and fostering collaboration, social workers can play a crucial role in building a more just and equal society. © Oxford University Press (2025).
