Abstract

This paper presents a model for the prediction of the residual stress distribution during and after fatigue. Finite element software is used for incorporating cyclic plasticity into the calculation. A simplified inelastic analysis was used. The calculation method is applied to shot-peened 35 NCD 16 grade steel and AISI 4140 grade steel. The different fatigue parameters often used in material research are studied. The relaxation of residual stress increases with the level of the stress amplitude when there is a fully reversed fatigue loading.
