Abstract
Due to their frail health, elders’ quality of life (QoL) is more sensitive than ordinary people’sto the architectural aspect of facility management (FM) in residential care and attention(C&A) homes. To provide a more humanized architectural FM design for the elderly, thispaper describes the relationship between architectural FM and QoL (made up of physical, psychological, social and environmental aspects) for elders in C&A homes. A questionnairesurvey was designed for elders living in residential C&A homes and conducted in HongKong. A total of 56 respondents participated, including 40 elderly residents and 16 staff inresidential C&A homes. The collected survey data were analysed with Pearson correlationusing SPSS 19.0. The results showed that the overall QoL was related to distance, spaceplanning, privacy, accessibility, floor finishes, and colour and decoration. The findings of thisstudy can help promote the development of architectural FM and raise the QoL of elderseffectively in residential C&A homes in the future.
