Abstract

A pattern reconfigurable dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) is investigated in this paper. In the design, a dielectric liquid called ethyl acetate is introduced as the radiator of the DRA. Therefore, a container is fabricated by 3D printing technology for the liquid DRA. The reconfigurability is achieved by pumping the ethyl acetate in and out to the 3D printed container. For demonstration, the antenna is design at 2.4 GHz for the WLAN applications. Broadside and conical radiation patterns can be switched at the working frequency. What's more, a wide operating bandwidth of 25 % from 2.17 to 2.79 GHz is obtained. This design propose an idea to realize pattern reconfiguration.
