Abstract

The magneto-electric dipole was invented about ten years ago. It is a combination of a planar electric dipole with a quarter-wave patch antenna fed by an L-shaped probe. It can be considered as a co-located electric dipole and magnetic dipole. Due to its complementary behavior, the antenna is not only wide in impedance bandwidth, it is also stable in gain and beamwidth over a wide operating frequency range. More importantly, the antenna is low in cross polarization and back lobes. In this presentation, successful designs for various wireless applications are reviewed, including those by the originator and his peers.
