Abstract

Boron-doped polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons are an emerging class of material. The incorporation of electrophilic boron atoms into aromatic system can modify the electronic property, leading to strutures with new photophysical and optoelectronic properties. The advances in synthetic chemistry promoted the generation of new boron-doped aromatic species and their applications in optoelectronics have been further explored. This review highlights the recent progress of three-coordinated boron-doped aromatic compounds for their applications in organic light-emitting diodes, organic field-effect transistors, chemical sensing, imaging and organic photovoltaics.
