Abstract
Operating IEEE 802.11 in multi-hop ad hoc networks causes a fairness problem. In this paper, a receiver initiated algorithm and adaptive voluntary pause time is proposed. In the proposed scheme, mobile nodes work in close collaboration to access the shared medium such that stability, coexistence, and fairness are maintained. Moreover, the new scheme is totally compatible to IEEE 802.11.
