Abstract

In this chapter, we reviewed the rare-earth elements containing materials for photovoltaic (PV) energy conversion. Up- and downconversions are currently the main methods to optimize the photocurrent efficiency of a variety of solar cells, which are emphasized in this chapter. Upconversion and downconversion phosphors are introduced and classfied by doping ions and host materials. At the end of this chapter, we discussed the challenge and perspective for the future development of high-efficient photovoltaic rare-earth nanomaterials. © 2022 WILEY-VCH GmbH.
