Abstract

This study deals with a multi-channel queueing system where the arrival process follows a switched Poisson process and the service rate alternates depending on the queue size. Derivation of the z-transform of the queue size steady state distribution, the expectation and the variance are presented. The performance of this queueing system under limiting conditions (i. e. , when fluctuations occur very seldom or very rapidly) is demonstrated. Numerical results are presented to demonstrate the effect of traffic burstiness on the queue size behavior, and to assess the improvement in performance attained by the dependence of the service rate on the queue size.
