Abstract

A moment method solution to the input impedance of a rectangular patch antenna with a parasitic element is presented. The grounded dielectric slab Green's function is derived. Entire basis expansion modes are used. It is found that the parasitic element improves the bandwidth of the antenna and provides an alternative method of impedance matching. The impedance behavior compares favorably with measured data presented by G. Dubost et al. (1986).
