Abstract
The cross polarization characteristic of rectangular patch antennas exciting the TM01 mode is studied. After reviewing and extending the results for the case of edge fed by a microstrip line, simulated and measured results are presented for the coaxial-fed rectangular patch antenna. It is found that, while the aspect ratio of 1.5 yields the best cross polarization level in the edge-fed case, it does not have special significance in the coaxial-fed case.
