Abstract

Organizations need to innovate to be competitive and Information Technology (IT) is considered as a strategic tool for this purpose. The present study anchors on the organizational learning framework to theorize that an organization could gain competitive advantage through two activities, namely open innovation (consisting of inbound and outbound strategies) and management innovation. Next, IT capability plays an important moderating role in the relationship between innovation strategy and competitive advantage. We validate our theorization using a set of matched-sample survey data that contain responses from managerial-level executives of 112 manufacturing and service organizations. Theoretical and practical implications are discussed.
