Abstract
When aerospace technology was still in its infancy and adventurous engineers were exploring the various manifestations of flying machines, they needed suitable spaces on the ground for their ventures. Concrete was the material that adapted to any desired shape and shed its earthy gravitas in the process. Giant sculptures were built to house the wind fans and the test stands and since nobody had needed these structures before, they looked like out of this world. Ninety years ago, the future had arrived in Berlin-Johannisthal.
