Abstract

In this paper, we introduce recent development on planar wideband circularly polarized (CP) antenna designs suitable for various cost-sensitive 5G applications. We sort these designs into three types: (1) L-shaped strip array antenna, (2) patch comb-line antenna, and (3) planar aperture antenna. The designs share the following characteristics: feasibility of differential feeding for direct integration with differential mm-wave circuits, operation based on traveling-wave excitation for wide bandwidth performance, and compatibility with standard printed-circuit-board (PCB) fabrication technology for low cost. Addressing current demands and antenna limitations, we present some of our recent results on CP antennas operating at 60 GHz band in terms of fundamental operation, achieved antenna performance, and implementation.

Research Area(s)
