Abstract
This study presents a methodology that applies queuing theory, decision theory, and simulation to analyze the economic merit of an FMS (flexible manufacturing system) application. At each decision point the decision-maker interacts with the simulation model by specifying alternative courses of actions to be evaluated. The capacity of the flexible manufacturing system may be augmented if projected demand exceeds current capacity. An after-tax analysis provides the decision-maker with the performance measure for selecting the best alternative.
