Abstract
This paper describes a new geometry of antenna, to be referred to as the vertical patch antenna (VPA), which can occupy less space and yield wider bandwidth than traditional patch antennas. A circular-VPA with radius 0.186λ0, is presented to have 10.7% bandwidth and 8 dBi gain. Stable and broadside patterns are maintained across the operating band. Simulations have been performed to confirm the experimental results.
