Abstract

In this paper, we presented a new linear polarization (LP) reconfigurable glass dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) with agile switch. To quickly reconfigure the polarization of the DRA, we equipped two orthogonal PIN-diode loaded metallic strip lines inside the dielectric resonator. The inserted metal strip line disturbed the initial electric field distribution and changed the polarization of the DRA. As a result, the glass DRA achieved three switchable polarizations: 90-degree polarization (STATE 1), + 45-degree polarization (STATE 2), and - 45-degree polarization (STATE 3) across a wide efficient impedance bandwidth (overlapped band of the three states) of 15.0 %. For demonstration, the DRA was designed at 2.4 GHz with high radiation efficiencies and quickly switch.
