Abstract

Distributed operating systems and distributed system environments are the two major streams of achieving distributed processing. Because of the difference in the design philosophies, they present different features to end users. This paper analyses and compares the design objectives, system architectures and implementation techniques of the two types of systems. It also discusses their different features and their impacts on computing communities.
