Abstract

A bicubic B-spline surface, so-called hand surface, is constructed, which interpolates or approximates the key data of a sensor glove or user's hand and is used to control and deform the shapes of surfaces and solids in a virtual reality (VR) environment. Because a corresponding mapping, a region filter function, an α blend and an incremental method are adopted, the shape modification becomes very easy and intuitive as if the user was using his hand to modify and control objects. Experimental results show the potential of the proposed method.
