Abstract
A new duplex-phase FeAl10Mn29C0.4 stainless steel alloy has been developed as a substitute for the conventional duplex Fe-Ni-Cr stainless steels. The microstructure of this new alloy after aging heat treatment at 710°C was investigated by means of the x-ray diffraction and electron microscopic techniques. It was found that aging the duplex alloy at 710°C for 1 hr could lead to the precipitation of κ-phase carbides within the austenitic grains. Consequently, a brittle β-manganese phase also appeared in this alloy after 1 hr aging. © 1988.
