Potential carbon dioxide sensing based on recognition by trans-[carbonylhydroxybis-(triphenylphosphine)rhodium(I)] deposited on acoustic wave devices

Abstract

The transition metal complex trans-[carbonylhydroxybis-(triphenylphosphine) rhodium(I)] was synthesized by a revised procedure and been characterized by 31P-{1H} nuclear magnetic resonance and infrared spectrometry. Reversible interaction of the complex with CO2 was demonstrated in the solution phase by both spectroscopic methods. Drop evaporation and spin and dip casting of solutions of the complex were employed to apply a solid film on the surfaces of bulk acoustic wave and flexural thin-rod acoustic wave devices for CO2 recognition. The reversible gas-phase detection of CO2 by both acoustic wave devices, deposited with the complex, has been confirmed.
