The first infrared (IR) vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) photoionization (PI) study using a pulsed infrared optical parametric oscillator (OPO) laser and a puled VUV laser was reported. It was demonstrated that the two-color IR-VUV laser PI schemes were generally applicable for measurements of state-selected and state-to-state PI cross sections for polyatomic species. Furthermore, it was shown that the IR spectrum for neutral species can be observed with high sensitivity by PI efficiency (PIE) measurements made as a function of the IR laser frequency at a fixed VUV energy.
