Abstract

The crowdfunding market is experiencing rapid growth, with more than 1,200 active platforms in 2015. These platforms generate a huge amount of open financial data in real time. Data management is critical for the success of crowdfunding ecosystems, which include platform providers, fund providers, and fund seekers. This poses a unique research challenge as the data management field has not studied how to manage big data in the cloud computing scenario. In this paper we develop a framework for managing big data from multiple crowdfunding platforms that will be serviced by one cloud computing system. Our research objective is to propose a novel data management paradigm that deals with diverse data models that evolve constantly. Specifically, we (1) outline a set of common features for typical crowdfunding models, (2) describe typical evolutionary data model changes, and (3) present a novel data modelling approach that deals with data diversity and evolution efficiently in one cloud. We also discuss several research challenges in managing big data from multiple industries under one cloud.
