Abstract
Novel europium and gadolinium complexes were synthesized and incorporated into electroluminescent (EL) devices. Though, the europium did not show any sizable emission from the ligands indicating that there was efficient energy transfer from the excited state of the ligands into the metal core. By selecting a polymer host whose emission spectra have better overlap with the absorption bands of othe metal, an increase in the efficiency of the devices as well as improving maximum brightness was shown.
