Abstract
The residual stresses in plasma-sprayed hydroxyapatite (HAp) coatings on Ti alloy implants were measured by hole-drilling method. The stresses observed were tensile in nature and reached a maximum value near the interface of HAp-substrate. The bonding strength of the coating was improved by decreasing the residual stresses in the coating.
