The compression rate of VPIC (visual pattern image coding) is significantly increased by the principle of fractal geometry in which, consecutive uniform patterns are merged to form a discrete yard pattern (DYP) or a continuous YP (CYP). On the other hand, with embedded AMBTC (absolute moment block truncation coding), the number of edge patterns is extended to cover textured structures. The visual quality is further increased by training the edge patterns to multi-level.
