Abstract
Optical waveguides in z-cut MgO: LiNbO3 fabricated by the proton-exchange process using phosphoric acid have been characterised. The waveguide exhibits a graded index profile with a surface index change of 0.145 measured at 0.633 μm. The diffusion rate is slower than that of undoped LiNbO3.
