Production of English lexical stress by Mandarin speakers: effects of tones and focus

Research output: Conference PapersPoster

Abstract

This current study aims to investigate roles of typological differences, the interaction of phonology and pragmatics in the production of English lexical stress by native Mandarin speakers. The results show that Mandarin speakers didn’t differentiate English lexical stress with F0 correlates. Also, the non-focus elements have limited degree of difference between the stressed and unstressed syllables for Mandarin speakers.
