Abstract

The radio-frequency plasma thermolysis reactor was employed for converting the biomass waste of rice straw to bioenergy. Various catalysts of K2CO3, ZnO, Na2CO3, Fe2O3, NiO/CaO-Al2O3, Fe2O3-Cr2O3 and Al2O3 were used to assist the plasma process. Various gas products of H2, CO, CH4, and non-methane hydrocarbons were detected during the catalytic plasma thermolysis. Among these catalysts, the use of K2CO3 catalyst gave the highest thermolysis conversion of 66.5 wt %. NiO/CaO-Al2O3 and Fe2O3-Cr2O3 catalysts had the highest performances in respect to the yield of H2 and CH4, respectively. The improved yields of H2 and CH4 were 14.3 and 13.9% for NiO/CaO-Al2O3 catalyst and 5.2 and 31.7% for Fe2O3-Cr2O3 catalyst, respectively.
