Abstract

The fractal finite element method (F2LFEM) has been successfully adopted to solve the stress intensity factor (SIF) for isotropic media problems. The method (F2LFEM) is extended into the orthotropic media. By using the analogy method, the domain is divided into the two domains D and Ω by the artificial boundary Γ. The domain D is the region around the crack tip and the F2LFEM is adopted to form the stiffness matrices and nodal displacement vectors. The rest region is the domain D and uses the traditional FEM to solve. The William s general solution of mode III orthotropic crack problems is obtained. Let it as the global interpolation function of fractal two level finite element method and obtain the SIFs of orthotropic plate with edge, double-edge and centre crack problems by using F2LFEM. The results show that this method is very efficient and accurate.
