Abstract

The recent transition from traditional grid systems to smart grids has significantly accelerated the global adoption of renewable energy; however, it has concurrently introduced new security risks to smart grids. In particular, the widespread integration of nanogrids in households has sparked discourse on the evolution of the electricity trading market toward a realtime pricing paradigm. However, the transition introduces a new cyber attack surface for electricity prices by manipulating home appliances or the electricity meters from malicious smart grid participants due to the demand-based electricity price decided by real-time demands. To mitigate these threats, we propose an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based planner integrated into Demand Response Enabling Device (DRED) systems. We evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed planner using publicly available electricity consumption datasets and the planner can generate appropriate countermeasures in accordance with the DRED standard. © 2025 IEEE.
