Abstract

The preparation of micrometer-sized photonic crystals consisting of a porous silicon/polymer composite by spray-coating a fine mist of polymer solution onto a porous-silicon photonic-crystal layer was analyzed. It was found that the uncoated porous silicon was removed by treatment with aqueous base, resulting in a composites that retain the spectral properties of the porous-silicon photonic crystal. Side bands of the fundamental resonance from the photonic crystal were also apparent in the spectra at longer wavelength. Analysis shows that the nanocomposite possess stable spectral features and increased resistance toward corrosion.
