Physical layer key generation for LoRa-enabled networks

Research output: Chapters, Conference Papers, Creative and Literary WorksRGC 12 - Chapter in an edited book (Author)peer-review

Abstract

This chapter provides an overview of LoRa-enabled wireless key generation as well as representative works of research on LoRa wireless secret key agreement. We begin by discussing the LoRa PHY and MAC layers. After that, we discuss the principles, evaluation metrics, procedure, and channel parameters for LoRa-enabled key generation. We then present several relevant studies on LoRa network physical layer key generation, including LoRa key generation schemes in various environments, LoRa key generation schemes for COTS LoRaWAN, LoRa key generation schemes utilizing various channel parameters, and LoRa key generation schemes for long-range and highly mobile scenarios. Since LoRa networks are often used for large-scale sensing deployments and the current method of key generation for LoRa networks is designed for two legitimate nodes, group key protocols between a large number of LoRa-enabled devices remain an unsolved challenge [50]. Now that LoRa has been identified as a key technology for LPWAN and physical layer security on LoRa is very important, it is envisioned that the research on secret key generation for LoRa networks will attract more attention from academia and industry. © The Institution of Engineering and Technology 2024.
