Parameter estimation of guided-wave reflection signal for quantitative characterization of defect in pipeline

    Abstract

The reflection signal from a defect in guided-wave based pipeline inspection usually includes sufficient information relevant to the defect parameters. It has been reported that the reflection of guided waves is the joint result of interference between the reflection components from the front- and the back-edges of the defect. In this research, we propose the method based on parameter estimation with the aid of signal processing technique to evaluate the axial length through identifying each reflection component. The real experimental data were used to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. © 2010 American Institute of Physics.
