Abstract

An adaptive, multi-level absolute moment block truncation coding (AMBTC) is optimized with DRT and CAO to yield near perfect visual quality. The AMBTC will adapt to the signal variance and switch the output from 1 to 4 levels. The thresholds for 2- and 4-level are optimized by dynamic range tuning (DRT) while those of 3-level by central aggregate optimization (CAO). This optimized coding system eliminates the blockiness and the jagged edge artifact completely. The performance also leads the closest by a great margin.
