Abstract
Recently, a form of parallel station has been developed to improve the efficiency of power-and-free automatic assembly systems. This paper investigates the productivity of parallel stations by examining the role of buffer stocks and their relationship to the fraction of defective parts presented to the station as well as the time required to clear the jams caused by the defective part. In particular computer simulation results are used to investigate optimal station placement and operation.
