Abstract

A high efficiency all-optical diode in a silver film with sub-wavelength slit-groove arrays surrounded by two slits is described and the coupling characteristics and transmission properties are numerically investigated by the finite element method. The nanoscale all-optical diode shows an extinction ratio of 90 dB corresponding to ultrahigh transmission contrast of 109. The transmittance in one direction is about 80% and the operating bandwidth is 145 nm.
