Abstract

Operating systems is an integral technical component for Computer Science, Information Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology and Information Systems disciplines in undergraduate and related computing study programmes. While a large number of text books are available on the topic, they are mostly books with enormous amount of details, and some books even having contents of over 800 pages. On the other hand, the study programmes nowadays are designed to cater for study on the operating systems with less than 30 lecture hours within a semester. This book aims to fulfill the needs for teaching and learning requirements with a semester with focus on the underlying principles and features found in modern operating systems. It explains, in a simple and effective manner, how the internal components of the operating systems are designed and developed. Case studies and illustrated examples are cited from operating systems including MS-DOS, Windows and Unix operating systems.
