Abstract

The nonlinear free transverse vibrations of a nano-beam on simple supports are investigated accounting for the nonlocal elasticity theory. The governing equation is proposed considering the geometric nonlinearity due to finite stretching of the beam. The method of multiple scales is applied directly to the governing equation. Via analyzing the solvability condition of the higher order differential equation, the nonlinear natural frequencies are obtained by an explicit expression. Numerical examples are presented to demonstrate the analytical results and to highlight the contributions of the nonlinear term and nonlocal parameter.
