Abstract
In echo planar imaging the Fourier space is sampled along a zig-zag trajectory. Because the sample points are nonuniformly spaced in one direction, the resulting image will contain ghost artifacts if the Fourier transform algorithm is used for image reconstruction. Although an artifact free image can be reconstructed using a deconvolution algorithm, the final image contains excessive noise. In this paper we analyze the nature of the noise and propose a data windowing method for reducing the noise effect. This method is shown to work well with computer simulated images. © 1991 IEEE
