Abstract

News media are major channels for the transmission of information to the public and deliver news about the latest developments regarding health issues such as climate change. How the media frame such information may enhance public understanding and enable appropriate responses by individuals and communities. However, there is a dearth of information about the prevalence of media representations of climate change as a human health issue. This study seeks to fill this gap by conducting a multi-year content analysis comparing media coverage of the health impacts of climate change across three countries. Here, we analyze 5,736 news stories on climate change as an issue of public health from print and online newspapers in the US, China, and India between 1 December 2012 and 15 December 2023. We will discuss the changes and consistencies in the public health framing of climate change news coverage during this time period.
